My operating system went a bit crazy on me a few day’s back, so I made the upgrade to Windows 7. I have Windows 7 on my laptop so I thought I’d be used to it, but hell no, it really threw me, and I’ve been mega tilted for the past few day’s, especially when HEM was driving me crazy. I’m really not used to the desktop layout and how the windows look and feel and I can’t wait to either theme it like XP or get used to it, so it doesn’t bug me so much. Worse still is that there appears to be a problem with my graphics drivers as now I can’t do basic stuff like setup a screen save, despite having a pretty good card that worked perfectly on XP.
So I haven’t done much poker for the last few day’s, I had a session with my team moshman coach earlier, which went okay and we’ve highlighted a few areas that I’m going to work on over this next week. I’m still pretty annoyed about my poor performance this month, mostly I’m just getting coolered and running into the top end of ranges, though I’m excited about improving my play and negating some varriance with an improved win rate.

Would I be insane to think that I can just rip my thumb out of my butt and make 2k out of 25nl over the next month, going to try and aim for $500 a week, maybe 75k hands a month, a couple of months of that and my roll will be back to a point where I feel happy to move back up to 50nl, and hopefully 100nl won’t be too long after that.
Sadly I’m too tired to grind now, probably a good thing after how I ended my last session but I’m really keen to get stuck into the grind tommorow. Gl at the tables everyone.

As part of my contract with Team Moshman, I have to submit weekly updates on my progress over the past week, and I’m very pleased to see a lot of improvement over this period, reflected in stats over the last 13k hands. The only one that still stinks is my win rate lol, hopefully that can be improved upon for next week. I had a sweat earlier with a fellow 2p2′er and behaved like a total bitch, need to work hard on that, no need to get mad just cause I’m running into the top of people’s ranges, it serves no good at all.
EDIT: I’ve just made Gold, wooohoooo, I’ve also just spzzed off 2 BI’s, one was possibly not so gross, one was very fucking stupid, fml

Its ages since I’ve posted a graph, and to be honest its cause all of my graphs have been depressing and embarrassing for quite sometime. Hopefully this one from today will buck the trend. I made a few mistakes with 2nd best hands today, typically trips vs full house stuff, so it feels really good to have such a good day after that. I’m using HEM for more then just the HUD during sessions now, and I need to get used to it, so this graph is taking from HEM rather then PT3.

Finished my 11th day of grinding 25nl today, and have broke into the plus column, unadjusted I’m still stuck ~$200, but variance ain’t something to cry about, certainly not 8-10 BI’s anyway. I’m pleased with my commitment so far, and the volume I’ve managed to keep up each day, despite often feeling very tired I’ve so far managed to keep pushing myself and I’m perhaps even on track for a respectable 50k hands for the month considering I took some day’s off at the start of the month. I’m also well on pace for locking up Gold VIP status for next month which is a relief, it would really suck to drop down to Silver for even just an odd month. A few calculations show that Platinum is going to be out of my reach this month unless I start putting silly hours or increase my table count and neither is likely to happen. I should hit Platinum again next month however, and it should be just about guaranteed if I managed to move back up into 50nl.
I’ve had a ton of sweats other the past week and that’s going well, though I’ve been really tired for a few of them, mostly due to time differences and that I’ve been grinding most of the day prior to my sweat session.
Kinda wish I could hop on the tables now and grind out a few thousand hands, but I’m way too tired, will probably just unwind with a bit of TV and get ready for another good day of play tomorrow, hopefully I can avoid some of the mistakes I feel I’ve made today.
Now that I’m thigh deep into the month, I’ll amend my targets / goals for June:
1. ~50k hands
2. Gold VIP for July
3. Start reading Elements of Poker
4. Implement some 4-9 tabling sessions

I started my coaching with Rapid Evolution today, having our first sweat with another to follow tomorrow. I managed to accrue around 2 buy in’s (sadly whisked away in later sessions) over the hour, which wasn’t so bad. Even during the sweat I did feel a little off though, I timed out way more then I normally do on non turbo tables, and I guess it felt like there was something missing. My final session of the day despite running like crap, didn’t have the same lingering feelings, so I think I can put it down to feeling a bit rusty after a week out of my usual grind, and feeling unaccustomed to 25nl, having been so long since I played bellow 50nl. The day didn’t end well, I finished around 2 buy in’s down. At first I was annoyed and frustrated, but I’m not going to let it affect me. I have another session with RE tomorrow to look forward to and I start my coaching with my other coach from Team Moshman on the 14th.
Myself, I’ve been doing pretty terrible since before the start of this year, and my biggest concern is in recovering the discipline and motivation to continue playing, as I think as leaky as it may be my current game should be enough to “win” at 50nl, and clearly its barely been doing that at best over these past 6 months or so. So for me personally a key component of my upcoming coaching will be regaining some confidence and for the coaching to support me in avoiding my own tilt and bad habits that have helped me fall into my present situation. Coaches can of course help you in all the standard way’s, by improving your techniques and general ability, as well as encouraging you to see things in a different light, and inspire you to aim higher.
Just as there are more then one approaches you can use with a coach to improve your game, there are also several coaching options to choose from. Coaching sites are really popular atm, most of the people in the community I know have a subscription to at least one of them, and this is a great cost effective method of coaching, many sites also include listings of coaches either the people who run the site, or coaches they have recruited, my own coach Rapid Evolution is listed on the popular coaching site Deuces Cracked.
I’ve had a few coaches myself, and a coach doesn’t even have to be someone who teaches for a living, it can be anyone, a friend who plays a little higher, someone in the community, a sweat partner, anyone can help. A few friends of mine have made some beneficial suggestions to me recently, concerning big out of game changes which could help me turn things aorund at a quicker pace. Things that I’ve been ignoring or putting off for some time, such as site change, as my main site has been getting worse and worse lately, especially after the recent changes. There are loads and loads of sites available to me, being that I live outside the US, and nearlly all will have attractive deposit bonuses, rake back or kick back incentives going for them. My main game is still by far online texas holdem, though that is another piont that coaches have brought up in the past. A good friend of mine is a big omaha fan, though I’m only just getting into it myself. I will definitely be paying more attention to the online poker tournament circuit when I break out of my BE run.

I joined a friend of mine from Home Poker Tourney at a PLO table, when my 25nl session finished, here’s two hands that stood out.
Lol, I’m such a luckbox here, I’ve just realized I did not have A2A4 double suited, oops!
meh, can’t be bothered to re-upload the hh, as it’ll be a pain to find without Omaha on my HEM installation. Villain had 98sXX

EDIT: I was supposed to be going to bed early, taking a nap, but I can’t nod off so change of plan, hopefully a shower and a few chores will wake me up enough so that I can get in a a session or two and continue the day, if I get tired later guess I can always take a short nap later, as long as it is short, I really need to resist my body clock so as long as I don’t end up in bed for the majority of the day, things could work out.

I came across this thread on two plus two recently, about dealing with run bad. The message was essentially “man it up son!”, and I’ve taken it to heart. Today hit me hard, I was on the verge of a breakdown at one point, but with a few words of support from fellow two plus tower’s I managed to tough it out and got in another session after a bit of a break. I’m really trying, despite lapses now and then to do just that, and get beyond the whining and emotion that serves no constructive purpose.
I was really pleased with how I managed to get over yet another rough start to the day today, hopefully I can keep this up. It does feel great to take the high road and just get on with the next hand. I’ve also just finished Tommy Angelo’s Eightfold Path to Poker Enlightenment series on Deuces Cracked as well, which finishes with a very similar theme. I finished this episode mid session I believe, so I’ll give it another watch tomorrow and then work back through the entire series. Hopefully by the time I’m knee deep into the 2nd watch, I’ll eventually get around to start reading his book, Elements of Poker.

I saw a video clip of a poker related movie recently called All In, and I was surprised that I hadn’t heard of it before, a quick look on the IMDB database showed it to show some potential in my mind so I ordered a copy from amazon. Well it arrived today, and I’ve just finished watching it with one of my house mates. I enjoyed it, definitely a good easy watch film, though the poker scenes where mostly brief and not filled with all that much poker content either it was kinda a cross between Lucky You and 21 in my mind, but descent.
The DVD lists Juan Juanda and Erik Seidel as making an appearance, but its so brief in all counts that its barley worth mentioning, worth checking out, but don’t expect it to be in anyway heavy on poker content, there are some recognizable faces in the cast though.

I’m sorta on a break atm, not a real break though as my coach informs me, as I’ve been sneaking some play at the micro Omaha Hi/Lo sng’s. I haven’t read any strategy on this, not for some time at least, so I’m just trying to figure things out bit by bit. I managed to pick up my first victory in the form of a limit O8 stt earlier today, and despite the $1 entry it was really rewarding to take it down, especially after a rather long HU battle.
So, as I seem incapable of taking a real break from poker, I’ve excluded myself for 2 day’s and we have set back our coaching schedule to begin when play can resume. Its my first ever exclussion, I just hope it makes a difference when I return to the games.
