Today’s Poker
Had a very late start today, and I’m likely to call it a day already as I’m feeling a bit too tired now.
To kick the day off, I sat in a $2 heads-up Sit ‘n Go on Poker Stars, more to pick up a frequent player point then anything else. I was doing well and had started to develop a nice lead, when I made my straight on the river and called a quick all-in re-raise from my opponent. I thought he was trying to steel it off me, as I had picked up several pots in a row, but he took down the pot with a 7 high straight, beating my 6 high straight. I didn’t managed to regain control afterwards and was soon out, starting the day with a $2.20 loss.
After a short break, I then decided to sit in a $1, 2 table Sit ‘n Go, again on Poker Stars. I was far more happy with my play here, I avoided trouble and took home big pots with my quality holdings. Until, two key hands sent me out in 14th, in both I held AK. First time around, there’s a raise and a call, and I push all-in, the initial raiser folds, and the caller thinks for a decade or two and calls with 7′s, which hold up. Strange call in my book, but I wasn’t too phased, I had him well covered so was still alive.
A few hands later I’m moved to the other table, and after a while, I again I find AK. This time I couldn’t afford a standard re-raise so simply push all-in again. Its folded around to a player, who as before thinks for a few weeks and then calls. He shows A3s, and the flop comes 888. At this point I was wrongly a little upset that it will be a split, for some reason I was thinking 888A would be a split, anyway, the turns a T and the river brings a 3 to send me out in 14th. Not a good start to the day.
With 2 frequent player points in the bag for my bonus, I moved to Full Tilt. I noticed a $1 razz Sit ‘n Go about to fill up as I logged in, so signed up. It was my first razz tournament, outside of play money. Unfortunately I lost, when I ended up with an 8 against an opponents 7 on the bubble.
Next I sat in a 10 table Sit ‘n Go, and was pleased with how I was doing. I lost plenty of chips firing two barrels on a A55 flop, only to have to drop to AJ, but was soon back to where I had left off. Just after the first break though, perhaps I had begun to panic, I knew I needed to build up my stack, so I could survive the two table stage, so I pushed all-in with pocket 7′s. Pocket jacks eventually called, to bust me in 28th, just before the two table stage even began.
Yep, all bad so far, but there is some good news lol
I sat in another 10 table Sit ‘n Go and have just made 5th for an $18 payout, plus an extra $2 from 4 bounties. I was very disappointed, as I hoped to take this down, but I actually feel far better about this finish then I did with my 2nd place finish, here I knew I did everything I could.
So, it hasn’t been a great day, but I’ve achieved what I set out for. Picked up my two frequent player points for my Poker Stars bonus and have recovered virtually all recent losses on Full Tilt with the 5th place cash, so I’m pleased.
