I’ve been enjoying the benefits of online poker for a little over a year now and it truly is a great thing for the game. Not only do I have the option of playing in the comfort of my own home, in any condition I seem fit, I have a whole host of games that I probably wouldn’t have even heard of if it wasn’t for online poker, and it is even more likely that such games will not be available to me in a card room anyway.
My current situation also forces me to play micro poker, so I wouldn’t be able to afford to play in a casino anyway, it just makes me really thankful for the opportunities online poker has presented me with.
I really love the idea that you can enjoy all the action and excitement of online poker without having to leave the comfort of your home. Come to this exhilarating new online casino, and with all the games available to keep your interest you wont be disappointed.
The biggest problem I have at the moment is getting time on the computer, as now I have to fight for access with my friends who seem to spend more time at the tables then I do lol.

The day started off so well, I’ve been working hard to get my bankroll back up to $140 after a shapr drop a couple of weeks back, and its been a bumpy journey. Finally though, I get to within 5c of my target. Then of course, I loose 1 1/2 buy-in’s and I’m back where I started, having blown all of my work from the day before.
How, well the short answer is that I over played TPTK in two key hands, here they are:
For the first hand, I make a standard raise with AK, get two callers and flop TPTK. I expect my hand to be ahead here, but theres two draws I’m worried about, the flush and a possible OESD with JT, so I lead out for a little over the pot, I get one caller.
The 6 doesn’t worry me, but I want to deny my opponent implied odds if he his drawing against me. I’m not used to calculating my bet sizes according to my stack in this spot, so I think for a while, and eventually bet $2 into a $1+ pot, which I hoped denied my opponent the correct implied odds to call me, though maybe not with JTs.
On the turn I actually decided to push the river, when the river came though and my opponent checked again, I realized that would be a big mistake. If my opponent was drawing he isn’t going to call a shove here, but worse still if he wasn’t drawing its highly likely I’m beat, so I check behind. Sure enough I was.

Here on another table I again find myself with TPTk after a pre-flop raise.
Oops, after reviewing the hand history, I’ve spoted a glaringly obvious mistake in my play… I’ll write out my in hand analysis first, then add what I’ve just realized.
I’m faced with a bet from an OOP calling, Its a stronger bet then I would normally expect for someone to make with an under pair or 2nd pair etc, which happens a lot at this level, so I’m aware he’s likely got something he wants to play with. My descion making is tainted by the fact that I’ve picked up every pot I’ve been involved in for the last few orbits, and I feel my opponent his simply drawing a line in the sand with a weaker ace, So I re-raise him to see where I stand. Long story short I end up with all my money in way behind.
Now heres the obvious point I missed in the hand. I’m facing an OOP bet for almost the size of the pot. I make a modest re-raise to see where I stand and my opponent makes it glaringly obvious he’s happy with what he has by coming over the top. If my head was screwed on I should have expected to see aces up or a set, but it obviously wasn’t as I move in.
I was actually going to note something I’ve just read and felt like I ignored in this case from Sklansky’s NL Hold’em Theory and Practice, but as you can see I made an even more obvious error. Anyway I may as well had my other though on the hand from Sklansky.
Essentially, if your opponents are folding to your seemingly frequent pre-flop raises and c-bets, and are not tangling with you, when they do, they are likely to have a strong hand, so don’t over value a vulnerable hand, expecting them to have lowered there standards against you, because you’ve been raising a lot recently.
Here I think the correct, line was to make a modest re-raise against the OOP better on the flop and then to fold when my opponent comes over the top, no need to get cute here. This hand especially has really bugged me tonight, either before I realized my more obvious beginner error, hopefully I wont be making such a foolish mistake again anytime soon.

I’ve started to think, as I often do about where to take my poker. What should I be doing and where should I be doing it. As I mentioned in a recent comment I’ve draw up a rough game plan of what I expect to be focusing on, but after some games today I’m already wondering if that should be changed.
I’ve just played two $5 single table sit ‘n go’s for instance on Poker Stars. I only made 7th in each, and it took an hour to get to that point. Usually with a $1 sit ‘n go they will last between an hour and an hour and a half for the whole thing, with even two table events not lasting much longer usually. So I am beginning to wonder if playing $5 single table sit ‘n go’s should be my main priority on Poker Stars. If they are going to take an hour or more to reach short handed, then I feel will have no choice but to multi-table them for the time commitment to be worth it, and thats something I didn’t want to have to do initially.
So I’m now back to thinking I should leave the single table events alone and concentrate on the two table sit ‘n go’s. The increase in payouts makes these more worthwhile, as in my experience they don’t usually take much longer then a single table event.
Then I wonder about the cash games, its not long ago where I decided to concentrate on cash games once I’ve earned my bonus, so maybe I should, stick with the 1c/2c NL full ring tables for a while and try and build a bankroll that way. I can always play the occasional sit ‘n go out of the days profits.
I’m happy with my aims for Full Tilt Poker at the moment, but I’m seriously beginning to wonder what I should be doing on Poker Stars when I earn my bonus.

My variance in the micro limit Sit-N-Go’s has been consistently very high for a long enough period now, that I have started to consider my options once I have achieved my bonus on Poker Stars.
I have had two aims with my online play, to increase my bankroll so that I can move up in limits and to gain experience and improve my game. I feel I have achieved the second, but are failing to make much progress on my first aim, my bankroll as been stabilized between $70 and $80 for some time. which I feel isn’t a significant enough increase on my deposit amount for the time commitment. However I will continue in the Sit-N-Go’s to ensure a steady stream of frequent player points until I have earned my bonus.
An obvious alternative to the single table Sit-N-Go’s is either limit or NL cash games. I enjoy both formats of cash games in theory, but I find the online micro limit variety very boring and seldom have the patience to sit in one for long enough.
Something I’ve considered is to focus more on live play at the local casinos. I have regular low limit tournaments with buy-ins from $4 to $40 within walking distance that I could use to build up a bankroll and which will also give me the benefit of some much needed live experience. I’m planning on sitting in my first casino tournament this Friday, so I’ll see how I feel about this after that.
I’ll be pleased to hear some opinions on this, if anyone has any suggestions or advise, etc.

I’ve just got back from one of my local casinos, where I managed to tripple my money with Black Jack!
We intended to enter a £2 NL tournament but missed the dead line for entry and me and my friend decided to go along anyway and have a bit of fun. After wandering around dazed for a few moments trying to get our bearings as neither of us had ever been in this particular casino before, we eventually found ourselves at a Black Jack table and changed our money for some chips.
I only intended to play with £5 out of the £10 I sat down with, so put one £5 chip aside and played with the 5 singles, never touching the single £5 chip. It wasn’t long before I started earning a few wins and I realized that I should start to add to that £5 chip with the aim of leaving the table with the same amount of money I sat down with, this goal was soon reached and I had made my £10 and had some fun.
I was still happy to play though, and whilst I had some chips left I kept playing, and I only dipped into my reserve once before rebuilding it again. I then set myself a new aim, an aim to double my money and turn my £10 I sat down with into £20, so after I won a few rounds, I would place a bet or two into my “bankroll” pile which wouldn’t be played with and I would keep on playing with a smaller pile of chips.
By this point my friend was on a roll, He must have hit at least eight Black Jacks! it was pure magic and I could tell he loved stacking up those chips lol. Once I reached what I believed was £20 in my bankroll I slowed down a little, wanting to be firm with myself and leave when I doubled my money, so I played a few more rounds, not really caring at this point whether I won or lost the few remaining “play” chips I had left, knowing that I had doubled my money already.
I finally busted out of my “play” chips and my friend agreed that it was time to leave, so we counted out our chips as instructed to have them changed for higher denominations to take to the cash desk and I was pleased to find that I had put away more then I thought, and took £30 over to the cash desk, my friend was even more sucessfull and had made £27 from his initial stake of only £5.
So we had a great night and took home £42 in pure profit between us.
