The ramblings and mumblings of a wannabe poker pro

4 F Sake

Maybe I need to give myself a break from the SNG’s now lol, because the frequency of stuff like this is getting to me.

hand 1,

Attack the “tight passive”, guy’s blinds, flop great and hope he pushes Woot!, wait… that wasn’t supposed to happen :-(

hand 2,

These long term +EV type spots, just plain suck in tournaments, maybe I haven’t achieved my tourney zen mind set yet.

  1. Yikes. Those two hands are rough indeed. Just goes to show that donkeys can win any hand at any time.

All I can say is to keep getting your money/chips in good and you’ll have a good run sooner or later. Hopefully sooner.

Keep up the good grind Lucky!!!

  2. Hya, I hope so, been along time since I’ve felt good about my results.

Sorry for the lack of updates, I’ve been bogged down with uni, and cracking the sng fundamentals.

I haven’t played cash in a while, but between study breaks I’m thinking of grinding a few buy-in’s at 2nl, as so far thats the only game thats really +EV for me, well besides the 20 tables, but I’m not in the mood for them much.

I am really pleased with how my sit ‘n go game as developed, I am by far a better STT player then I ever was, the problem is that I have upped my aggression a huge load, and at least 50% of the time I am playing situations more then my cards, which has lead to some variance. Mostly though because I am trying to grasp concepts that are new to me, like pushing wide against high blind limper’s, or very high blind steel %’s on the bubble, I am making some pretty big mistakes that would be obvious to others.

I’ve spewed a few times, leading to 6/9 finishes, but most of early finishes are due to slightly mis-applying some aggressive concepts, coolers or having the blinds wake up with a big hand type thing when I push my ATC into them… variance will help some, but when I tighten up in these areas I should hopefully start to see a nice return for my commitment in these, which is something I haven’t had for a long, long time, which makes me feel a bit better about the long string of 4th place finishes I have had to endure.

My biggest problem seems to be around 5-4 handed with 20 or 15 BB’s actually, as I am so aggressive and don’t care about the bubble so much I am committing too much in marginal spots, so I need to be aware of this and adjust my pushing ranges towards certain opponents more, and reduce my stack off frequency when I have more then 10 big blinds in my stack.

I managed to run my last tournament history through SNG Wizard last night and was pleased with the results, if I can get a little more used to it I think I’ll invest in a copy when I can afford to spare the money on it.

After spending some time focusing on STT’s, it probably won’t be long before I get back to my HOH1 and finally finish reading it. I’ve just finished my first complete read of Colin Moshman’s SNG Strategy for STT and was very pleased with it, it will certainly be getting a 2nd read once I have had time to internalize some of the concepts more.
