Successful HBL Attack

No real hand lead to it, and no descion has really been made, nor have my interests changed, but instead of FR cash I’ve started to play the SNG’s once more. I begun with a break even day of double or nothings, which I have no clue how to play.

Now I am giving the STT’s a whirl, with the aid of Moshman’s STT strategy book, which I will be thoroughly reading at least twice as I also have no idea what I’m doing in these things either.

So I’m back playing $1 STT’s, trying to get some basics STT play bolted down over a solid simple. I’m not switching, hell no, I love cash games way too much for that. I guess I just got worn down by sucking so much at 5nl, and I hate having no clue how to handle basic tournaments, So, I’m looking to get a solid grasp of the basics of SNG play which has been eluding me ever since I first sat down in one.

With that in mind, here’s my first attack on HBL’s (high blind limpers) :p

  1. I think it is important to mix things up every now and again. A couple of weeks ago I entered a 45 player SnG and came second…that was kinda fun. My whole problem with tournaments is that they can go on for while whereas with cash you can enter and leave as you please. When my bankroll gets higher I am looking forward to playing in the occasional higher stakes MTT where the payouts can be impressive. For now, I am back up to 25c/50c NL cash.

  2. I agree, I ocassionally do the odd 20 table sng on stars, but I haven’t gotten around to one for some time.

The flexability of cash games is a huge bonus, I love them, but for now I’m not in the mood to sit back in them, I suck, now I suck, but can’t seem to get out of my patterns, so hopefully a break from FR cash, will allow me to come back and crush 5nl once and for all.

For the moment though, I’m happy enough playing the odd $1 SNG, though I’d like a few 1st place finishes, the early string of crap places is no fun, but I think I’m learning and its a change of pace for me. An interesting note is that, because I am so used to cash games now, a few times the bubble went by without me even noticing, I’m so fixiated on first and don’t call all that mucha bout bubbling anymore, if I can keep the same fearless approach to higher stakes games I would hope to be handomley rewarded for it.
