My Targets for October 2009
Primarily I only have one goal, that is to crush at 50nl, I don’t yet know what crushing 50nl in terms of wr will mean for me, but I’ve had 2 or 3 months of reasonably solid volume now where my red line has been negative and my WR has been far lower then it has been in the past. So in short, I plan to kick the shit out of this little rut I have found myself in
Objectives
- Play 10k hands of 50nl 6-8 tabling without a HUD and really really focus on maximizing my EV, both red line and blue line, but there will be a bias towards red line.
- Re-setup my HEM HUD, changing it to a very minimal setup to help me get used to seeing it and using it on my tables.
- Continue to play 50nl this time using the HUD.
- Build up my FPP’s and use at least half to grind tournaments at the end of the month or start of next.
- Watch a least 4 coaching video’s per week, and post hands on 2p2.
Targets
- 40k hands
- 4ptBB/100+
- $1.5k

Ambitious goals! Play well, will look forward to following your progress.
I wish everyone well, and hope we achieve a great month
Looks like a good month Lucky…I am envious!
Just out of interest, I do wonder how much importance you should place on “improving” your red line. I know this is an ongoing discussion, but I just think there are so many variables affect the red line that it is wrong to be didactic. An extreme example, if you at least call every single hand, you will obviously be a big losing player, but you will have a positive red line (in fact it will never go down). Another example, if your moderate hands run into a run of better hands, and you make the correct reads and fold, your red line will go down but you have played perfectly
I don’t feel good about it tbh, I’ve just come down with a rough dose of the flu so can’t really think straight atm, but I am looking to change how I play and get back to how things used to be. I want to feel like I am “beating” the level well and are making a consistent climb, atm I just feel like I’m getting lucky, I know that’s not the case, but I’m just not happy with how I feel I’ve been playing, and its been getting me down for months now, so things have to change.
I just joked that this month is my worst ever lol, I’m down $175 in 2 day’s play, I feel way behind at uni already and now I’m pretty much bed ridden with illness. I can’t wait to turn things around and laugh about it, and I’ll be rewarding myself with a 28″ monitor and a new wireless mouse when I do
You’ve been reading my blog long enough to have seen my earlier graphs from the start of my 25nl days and before, comparing those graphs to the last two months shows how important red line can be towards your green line results. A lot of it probably depends on style of play, and I agree that you shouldn’t become a blue line spew box just to save your red line, but for fr at least I am confident that a BE if not positive red line is very much achievable.
I can’t sweat much anymore due to constant problems with skype or team viewer, but I’m always looking to talk strategy and improve my game, feel free to hook up on skype IM or AIM, I am listed as LuckyStraights on both.
Best of luck xxx
Hi all
Really interested in this redline topic (finally worked out how to turn it on in HEM and can’t believe I missed it for so long). Interestingly since I started playing again my redline was positive for the first 2k hands or so and then has dipped negative – right around the time I started calling more in position with speculative hands against EP/MP raisers. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not talking calling station spew here, I’m being selective. But with the power of position, calling the odd raise with a hand like 75s can be really deceptive … lets say villian raises AQ UTG and the flop comes Q55 … you can get stacks this way but get out cheap if the flop comes Q72. In this sense redline would take a hit with all the calls and misses but overall wins would be up over time.
Just my initial thoughts. Blindtilt I also like the look of your blog!
Hya, sorry for my late reply, ill atm, so been in bed a lot lol.
It depends on your opponents, it may be true in 6m, but unless its reg vs reg or your image is shattered I don’t think AQ stacks off in FR on a Q55 board if you play fro stacks, you’ll probably pick up a descent pot, but I don’t think you’ll get stacks in too often. If you have a wild image and people don’t give you any credit flatting and looking to hit a flop hard is by far the best play, but otherwise light 3b’ing pre can be a better move some of the time, as well as raising or floating the flop as a bluff. What you need to avoid is calling just trying to hit, you need v.good IO or the possibility that you can take the pot away UI IMO.
I’m too ill to play atm
but I’ll be paying close attention to my own red line during my next 10k hands.
Fair point, I only play 6 max so I can appreciate it may be different Full Ring. I’m curious, how come you focus on full ring?
I’ve just always been a full ring player. I’ve dabbled with 6 max and seriously considered switching a couple of months ago, but my main game has always been full ring.
I like full ring, and my game has always been in some sort of flux, so I suppose I like the lower variance format, as I solidify my own game and my understanding of NLHE depends I will probably venture into 6m more often when it seems more profitable for me to do so, especially as it appears I suck at multi-tabling.
I think I’ve gone a little off it recently though, now I would much rather become an accomplished HU players as well as a FR player, rather then re-train in 6m.
How did these goals go so far? I too always make it a point that i have goals in anything that i do
Hya, I think its a great idea to keep goals and targets, I’ve recently realized how motivating the correct goals can be.
My October goals where mostly missed I think, now in November I’m still not using a HUD, I may get that turned on tomorrow. I am a regular at 50 now though and have been playing some more 100 lately too.
I only got about half the volume in, but I was ill for a big chunk of the month, and couldn’t play until the latter half of it.
I was pleased at the end of the month
